Congratulations to all the winners of our latest Smart Futures student competitions. In our nationwide competition we asked you to “How many of the world’s top 13 medical technology (devices and diagnostics) companies are located in Ireland?”
The correct answer is 11, and the winners are…
- Sarah McGoohan, Loreto Convent, Letterkenny (MacBook laptop)
- Ryan Dunne, St Gerald’s College, Castlebar (iPad2)
- Sarah Fagan, St Oliver Plunkett NS, Blackcastle, Navan (Xbox Kinect, in the primary schools category)
Thanks to everybody who took part and to all the sponsors.
We also had a prize of a Nokia Lumia 800 phone for the best question to any of our panels for the STEM Careers Week. The winner is Kevin O’Donovan from St Fachtna’s De La Salle in Skibbereen, Co Cork, for his question to the panel of people who work in cybersecurity and computer forensics. Kevin’s question was:
“Hey Tony, I’m Kevin and I’m 13. I was just wondering if it is possible to design a program that could recognise any viruses trying to destroy a system or steal information, and could then erase them by itself. Sort of an immune system for a computer, you know? Please tell me if something like this has already been invented, or if it is even possible!”
